- What A Water-ful Life -

We all know we should drink more water. Just like we know we should eat more salads and move our bodies a bit more. But just because we know it certainly doesn't mean we do it. I'm as guilty as anyone for reaching for my morning coffee before hydrating- yes even after a workout!

That's why this month, we want to focus on a hydration challenge. It's always important to stay well hydrated, but even more so during the hot summer months (yes, this would be assuming Michigan ever gets warm!). On average, we should be aiming to consume half of our body weight (in lbs) in ounces of water. For example, a 150 lb person should aim to drink 75 ounces of water. However, this is a general rule and the most telling sign of your hydration is actually the color of your pee.

In honor of this challenge, I wanted to leave you with my top tips to help you be more conscious of your water consumption and how we get ourselves to drink up!

  1. actually track your water consumption. I know this seems like it contradicts my earlier statement but if you genuinely have no idea how much water you're consuming daily it can be really eye opening to actually pay attention to it.

  2. start your morning off with a glass of water

  3. refuse to leave the gym with any water in your bottle

  4. carry a reusable water bottle with you EVERYWHERE

  5. keep a pitcher of water in your fridge at all times

  6. consume lots of produce, especially varieties that are high in water content like watermelon and cucumbers (yes food can count as water intake!)

  7. make a smoothie with water instead of milk

  8. flavor your water with things like berries, lemons, limes, cucumber, mint, basil, rosemary- the options are endless if you don't love plain water

  9. sip on warm lemon water between meals

  10. invest in a good water filter- you can definitely taste the difference in good quality water!

These are our top 10 tips to inspire us to drink more water. Be sure to follow along all month with our healthy habit challenges via social media. Cheers to staying well-hydrated this month!
